Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Yep I did it. I’m claiming our blog, LifeInMichigan on Bloglovin. See how happy we are 🙂

What is Bloglovin?

It is a blog reader that updates you when a blog has been updated. When I stumbled upon it earlier today I discovered one person was already following LifeInMichigan on Bloglovin so I figured I should claim LifeInMichigan. According to CrunchBase, Bloglovin has 1.5 million members, 70% of them follow fashion blogs and over 90% are female. Maybe Bloglovin isn’t the best blog reader for us, as we are not a fashion blog but maybe it is time for Bloglovin to expand its audience to Michigan enthusiasts.

Also, where do men follow their favorite blogs? Clearly not on Bloglovin.

All the “scientific” material suggests that you should pick a few social media sites to promote your blog. You can’t possibly be everywhere so don’t try. I’m still trying to figure out why anyone would be on Instagram but that may be just an indicator of my age.

LifeInMichigan and Social Media

Our social media strategy has been strictly an organic approach. That is to say, there hasn’t been a strategy and we’ve just created profiles on the social media sites that we like to use. This is probably why our daily pageviews are not in the millions but we’ve seen a steady increase over the last year. If you have any recommendations, please leave a comment below.

Facebook

Facebook definitely. We only have a small group of followers. We have a few “rabid” fans that like almost every post. We try to thank each new person for liking our page and these posts are usually the most popular.

Pinterest

We joined Pinterest about a year ago. Chuck claims it is just for “chicks” but I disagree. It generates about a third of our referral traffic. Our top three referrers:

  1. Facebook
  2. Search Engines
  3. Pinterest

Google+

We have a page on Google+ and I’m not good about updating. When I post to my personal google page and to the communities I belong it usually generates a small but steady flow of traffic to our blog. I suspect it helps boost our search engine traffic. I don’t have any data to support this theory.

Tumblr

I think I may be too old for Tumblr. I found my son Isaac’s Tumblr blog a few days ago and followed it. This created a lot of stress for him and he asked me unfollow him. He said, “this is not for you.” I unfollowed him. He was right there are some blogs you should not follow.

Twitter

I have had a Twitter blog for years. I just recently converted to a LifeInMichigan twitter account. We get new followers every day and when I’m bored I tweet or follow others on Twitter. The only real success we’ve had with Twitter is when Anthrax tweeted a link to our blog. I know, Anthrax tweeting our content. Chuck published a post about their Detroit concert last April. Our blog nearly had a meltdown from all the traffic that day.

Recommendations?

How do you spend your day on the internet procrastinating? Which Blog Readers do you use? Do you have content recommendations for us?

I’d love to hear your feedback.
