Our Visit to the Orkney Islands Mainland
We visited Scotland’s Orkney Mainland in search of Neolithic tombs, prehistoric monuments, Viking graffiti, Highland coos, Holy Relics, Scotch and maybe a sheep or two. We were not disappointed.
Little Sable Point Lighthouse in Mears Michigan
Standing tall on Lake Michigan’s shore is Little Sable Point Lighthouse and it is a beauty. We caught the lighthouse bug last summer during our romp about Michigan. It is highly contagious. After you tour one, you’ll find yourself scanning the beach for the familiar beacon.
Quincy Mine Tour in Hancock Michigan
Just north of Hancock, Michigan in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula is the Quincy Mine. It’s been closed over 70 years, but tours are available. During our 2017 Michigan Tour, Chuck convinced me it was time to slay my fears and journey nearly one mile into the side of a hill and explore a bit of history.
Michigan WWI Centennial Commission honors Sabaton
The Michigan WWI Centennial Commission and Michigan Military Heritage Museum honored the metal band Sabaton for bringing the history of World War One alive for their fans.

Pioneer Day at the Waterloo Farm Museum
For 50 years, the Waterloo Area Historical Society has celebrated “Michigan Farm Life” on Pioneer Day at the Waterloo Farm Museum. It is a slice of 19th century farm Americana. Think an intimate Henry Ford Museum, but way better.

Boat House Beer Fest 2017 in Detroit
We raised a glass for a good cause at the Boat House Beer Fest, a restoration fundraiser for the Friends of Detroit Rowing at the Belle Isle Boat House.
Inside the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse
The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse is also known as the “Castle of the Straits”. It marks the junction of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. From 1892 until 1957, the lighthouse helped ships navigate the perilous waters of the Straits of Mackinac.
